Hofesh Shechter at the Foreign Affairs Festival
With "Political Mother” and "Sun”, Hofesh Shechter has already displayed his passion for pompous and powerfully staged dance-rock concerts at the Berliner Festspiele. At this year’s Foreign Affairs festival, "the biggest beast in British choreography” is staging one of the most elemental themes in human vocabulary – love – and all the emotional convulsions that go along with it.
The first third of his choreographed trilogy is entitled "the barbarians in love” and was premiered in St. Pölten in the fall of 2014. The piece concerns Schechter’s confession of love and betrayal for his wife, with accompanying baroque music. Further insights into the uncivilized nature of couples’ relationships ensue: an almost urban choreography accompanied by a dubstep groove and a quirky duet. (cm)
