"TOKAPIM" in the Acker Stadt Palast
Exploding Plastic Inevitable (EPI), is what the series of multimedia performances shown in 1966 in the New York scene-locale The Dom was called.
Multiple projections of Andy Warhol films mingled here with the music of The Velvet Underground & Nico alongside dances staged by Warhol’s Factory master artists – a psychedelic feast for the senses that eluded any attempt to define it due to its spontaneous variety and abundance. The name of the Berlin community project "TOKAPIM”, coming this April to the Acker Stadt Palast, also seems to be all about expanding our awareness. Much in the tradition of EPI, five artists are creating a visual and acoustic room of mirrors under the auspices of two performance collectives: contemporary dance (Tomoko Nakasato and Junko Wada) along with the sounds of electric guitars and experimental wind instruments (Schneider TM and Werner Durand) find their response in a feast of seemingly endless kaleidoscopic video projections (Takehito Koganezawa). May the shapes, colors and sounds bring the senses to dance!
