Jury decision TANZFONDS ERBE January 2017
For the fifth and final time, TANZFONDS ERBE is funding artistic projects dedicated to the cultural heritage of dance
TANZFONDS ERBE, an initiative of the German Federal Cultural Foundation, is awarding EUR 589,815.
TANZFONDS ERBE has been facilitating the realisation of artistic projects dedicated to important choreographic positions, key works and themes in 20th century dance since 2012. In their funding decision on 16 January 2017, the members of the jury – Dr. Kerstin Evert, Dr. Katja Schneider and Bettina Wagner-Bergelt – selected 10 projects and 13 guest performances from 63 applications.
According to the jury, "The final funding round has shown that, in addition to familiar protagonists such as Gerhard Bohner, Simone Forti, Johann Kresnik and Mary Wigman, there are also new discoveries for exploration, for example the choreographer Karin Waehner or the dancer and composer Ernest Berg.”
Funding for guest performances makes it possible to present TANZFONDS ERBE projects in Brasilia, Rome, Prague, Dresden, Osnabrück, Leipzig, Bielefeld, Munich and other locations.
"The remarkably high number of applications for guest performances at home and abroad reflects the growing national and international interest in TANZFONDS ERBE productions,” said Hortensia Völckers, Artistic Director of the Federal Cultural Foundation. "After receiving the highest European prize for cultural heritage, the Europa Nostra Award, from the European Commission last year, the Federal Cultural Foundation sees this as fresh confirmation of the success of its funding initiative for dance."
Initially limited to two funding rounds, TANZFONDS ERBE was extended for another three years in 2014 on account of its success. DIEHL+RITTER gUG commissioned an evaluation study of the funding initiative in November 2014 in order to see if the conception and implementation of TANZFONDS ERBE made it possible to achieve the project’s aims, and which recommendations emerge for future funding programmes. "The findings of the external evaluation confirm the success of the funding initiative in every respect,” said fund director Madeline Ritter. "Our aim was to inspire a lively cultural memory of dance and we’re proud to say that we achieved this goal.”
