The Avant Garde of the Now
Sound and movement at SO36
In the 1980s, SO 36 was the smaller and wilder brother of the two postal code districts in Berlin Kreuzberg. The club in Oranienstraße bearing the same name is still a locale of intensively lively subculture today.
It should come as no surprise then that in the one-time stronghold of punk and new wave an unusual format is going to be taking up temporary residence. Taktstelle, the event series for contemporary dance and independent music, has already staged events at the Friedrichshain Theaterkapelle and Lido. The eleventh edition features three dancers from the MS Schrittmacher artist collective, the post-postpunk trio Automat and the electropop quartet Pentatones. In the process, technologically inspired sound meets minimally timed body-apparatuses and vocal ecstasy meets strict ballet geometries. A dance and musical experience drawing its common movement impulse from the everyday urban present around us. (cm)
