The Journey is the Reward
A walk to the Sophiensaele
Choreographer and performer Martin Nachbar is an experienced "Walkman,” according to the announcement for his lecture tour "Walks” by the performance house brut Wien in Spring 2011. Now the stage production "The Walk” is about to premier. The science of strolling, walking as artistic practice or performative urban research may not be for everyone. But the working title – "Theater is a Building in the City” – quickly makes clear that the "walking” part of the performance is no aimless stroll through Berlin, but a dancing, singing and playful excursion to the Sophiensaele. The theater piece thus begins with the journey to the theater. And this journey shall be thematically continued on the stage by Martin Nachbar’s ensemble that performs, choreographs, talks, makes music and dances. For once, it is not the theater, that is being asked to be flexible and to open itself to the city: for once, the movement comes to the theater.
