Dancing Empathy

Premiere of Sasha Waltz & Guests and Rimini Protokoll at Radialsystem

Spiegelneuronen (“Mirror Neurons”) is the first collaboration between Sasha Waltz & Guests and the documentary theater label Rimini Protokoll. Together with the dancers and the audience, director Stefan Kaegi will examine the relationship between the individual and society using dance in front of a large mirror. By incorporating documentary research on concepts from brain research, biology and artificial intelligence, an experimental evening takes shape that the audience essentially helps to design. The audience is invited not only to observe the emergence of dance movements, but also to move themselves and experience themselves as part of a kind of large brain. In exchange with the dancers, the audience embodies complex (mirror) images and thus becomes co-creator of the choreography. (jw)
