Remembering and Storytelling with Dance
The 36th edition of Tanz im August showcases diversity and change
Every year in August: this year’s edition of the international festival Tanz im August features extraordinary artistic perspectives in around two weeks at the end of summer: one of the thematic lines is the exploration of cultural identity, heritage and embodied memory. Choreographer Dorothée Munyaneza, for example, will examine the cultural heritage of her native Rwanda, artist Soa Ratsifandrihana will trace the narratives of diasporic life, and Yinka Esi Graves will unearth the forgotten traces and influences of black culture in flamenco. Furthermore, Berlin-based choreographers Meg Stuart, Rita Mazza, Jefta van Dinther and Michelle Moura will also be performing. The festival will conclude with the Outbox Me Fusion Dancebattle at Tempelhofer Feld, bringing together movement artists of all kinds. (jw)
